Arsenal are now second in the Premier League ahead of London rivals, Chelsea, after a goal from Kai Havertz earned the Gunners a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town on Friday night.
Following a last-gasp 2-1 loss for Chelsea to Fulham on Thursday, Mikel Arteta’s side knew a win would be enough to go from fourth to second on the table.
The winning goal at the Emirates Stadium came after 23 minutes when Havertz converted Leandro Trossard’s ball as Arsenal finally made their overwhelming dominance in the early stages count.
Ipswich offered no threat at the other end, while Arsenal were happy to dictate the pace of the game and test Arijanet Muric when the chance came.
Next up for Arsenal is a trip to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on New Year’s Day.
