Bayern Munich striker, Harry Kane, scored twice to help Bayern Munich to a 3-0 win over German rivals Bayer Leverkusen and give the Bavarians a solid advantage in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.
Playing at the Allianz Arena, the venue of this season’s final, Bayern finally cracked a win against a Xabi Alonso-led Leverkusen to put a foot in the last eight of the Champions League, having failed to get a win over the visitors since Alonso became manager.
The writing was on the wall for Alonso and Leverkusen when Kane met Michael Olise’s cross to head Bayern in front after just nine minutes, with the visitors failing to trouble their hosts as the half ended with the lone goal.
Bayern wasted little time to extend their lead, striking in the ninth minute again through Jamal Musiala after the German forward pounced on a mistake by the Leverkusen goalkeeper to get Vincent Kompany’s side up and running in the second half.
It went from bad to worse for Leverkusen as Nordi Mukiele was sent off for a foul on Kingsley Coman, while Bayern put the cherry on the cake when Kane got his second from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Tapsoba.
Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Raphinha’s strike around the hour mark gave 10-man Barcelona a 1-0 win at Benfica, while Inter Milan came away from Rotterdam with a 2-0 win over Feyenoord.
