Ferrari driver, Lewis Hamilton, has been hit with a penalty at the Monaco GP after being deemed by race stewards to have impeded Red Bull’s Max Verstappen over the course of qualifying on Saturday.

The world champion had to change his lane to avoid Hamilton, who was seen on footage during review moving slowly at the Massenet entry during the opening phase of the first qualifying laps.

Stewards have handed Hamilton a three-place grid penalty after reviewing the footage, dropping the Ferrari driver from fourth to seventh in the starting grid for Sunday’s race.

Hamilton’s penalty means Verstappen will start the race in fourth, followed by Isack Hadjar of Racing Bulls and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in fifth and sixth spots respectively.

The Brit joins Haas’ Ollie Bearman and Lance Stroll of Aston Martin in being penalised. Bearman has been hit with 10-place drop for a red flag breach in practice, while Stroll got two penalties for a clash with Leclerc in FP1 and an impeding incident in Qualifying.
