Manchester City remain in the hunt for some silverware this season after coming from behind to get a 2-1 win over Premier League rivals, Bournemouth, and reach the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
The Cityzens had a glorious opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a spot-kick in the 14th minute, but Erling Haaland saw his penalty saved by Bournemouth’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Haaland went on to waste two other golden opportunities as City struggled for rhythm in the face of their formidable hosts, and it was not long before he was made to rue those misses as Andoni Iraola’s men went in front in the 21st minute.
Bournemouth striker Evanilson was in the right place at the right time to scramble the ball into the net from point-blank range after Justin Kluivert sent the ball back across the City goal for the Brazilian to score.
City boss Pep Guardiola rang out the changes at the break, sending on Nico O’Reilly for the struggling Abdukodir Khusanov, and it paid dividends only four minutes into the second half.
The 20-year-old, who was operating at left-back, created the equaliser with a perfect cross for Erling Haaland to turn in at the far post.
But City soon had cause for worry as Haaland picked up an apparent injury which forced him off after an hour, with the striker appearing to twist his left ankle in a touchline tangle with Lewis Cook.
Haaland was replaced by Omar Marmoush and he made an instant impact in the 63rd minute after O’Reilly played in the Egyptian to send the ball creeping under Kepa Arrizabalaga for the winner.
The win sees City reach the semis for the seventh time under Guardiola, where they will take on Nottingham Forest at Wembley.
