Manchester City are back to winning ways in the Premier League after edging Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 thanks to a goal by Erling Haaland at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night.
Spurs came in the clash with solid momentum after recording three consecutive league wins, while City were reeling from a 2-0 home defeat to league leaders Liverpool last weekend.
But it was the visitors that got the early breakthrough in the 12th minute through Erling Haaland. The Norwegian, who missed City’s home defeat to Liverpool last time out due to injury, was on hand to tap home from close range off Jeremy Doku’s pass.
The goal saw Haaland become just the second player in history to score 20 or more goals in each of his first three Premier League seasons, joining Ruud van Nistelrooy, who achieved the feat from 2001/2002 to 2003/2004.
Spurs tried to find a way back in the game in the second half but their efforts failed to yield dividends, rather it was the visitors who thought they had sealed the win with a superb finish from Haaland following a bulldozing run in stoppage time, only to see the goal chalked off after VAR review.
As a result, City move up to fourth spot, just one point above Chelsea on the Premier League table. Spurs on their part remain in 13th place with 33 points – ahead of Manchester United and West Ham on goal difference.
