Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has shared his thoughts on his team’s victory over Manchester United in the 2024 Community Shield on Saturday.
Goals from Alejandro Garnancho and Bernardo Silva took the match to a penalty shootout, and the Premier League champions went on to win the tie with a 7-6 win.
Manchester City boss Guardiola mentioned who is the club’s best penalty taker during the post-match news conference: “Ederson is our best penalty taker. Along with Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne. All three are our best.”
Guardiola also commented on the match: “I saw many things today that I like. The first 35 minutes were beyond excellent for the time together. Still we are far from our best, that is normal. It is better to win one trophy but the reality is nothing changed.”
The Spaniard added, “We played really good and at the end the ball is not stable and both players miss a lot of long balls. Manchester United are so dangerous in transitions, they are really good and one of the best teams in that concept.”
He also touched on the club’s ambition this season: “Now we see how the players come back. The target now is not to win the Premier League, it is ‘OK next game try and win it’. This is what we have to do.”
