English striker Mason Greenwood has seen an unsettled time at Manchester United come to an end following the completion of his move to Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille on Thursday.
The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal with l’OM in a transfer worth £26.7m, with Man. United reported to have a sell-on close described as sizeable.
“Olympique de Marseille are delighted to announce the signing of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United,” revealed the French club in a statement, adding that “The 22-year-old striker has signed for the club following a successful medical.”
Greenwood spent the 2023/24 season on loan at La Liga side Getafe after 18 months frozen out from the United squad as a result of suspension from the club in January 2022 and charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour against him in October 2022.
The charges were dropped in February 2023 as key witnesses in the case withdrew from further participation in assisting investigations. That, along with a loan spell in Spain, however proved not enough to keep him at Old Trafford.
