Scottish Premier Football League outfit Glasgow Rangers have turned their attention to Israeli forward Dor Turgeman, as they bid to look for a replacement for Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers.
The Super Eagles hitman’s imminent transfer appears to have hit a brick wall lately, but his club have already begun the process of finding a suitable replacement in time for the upcoming season.
30-year-old Dessers had agreed personal terms with Greek Super League giants AEK Athens and was set to join them in the Netherlands for pre-season, but the move is reportedly on hold as Rangers refuse to greenlight his exit without first signing a replacement, according to Record Sport.
The Ibrox giants are currently involved in a number of negotiations, including a £5m bid for Maccabi Tel Aviv forward Dor Turgeman, but are said to be prioritising offloading either Dessers or Hamza Igamane before proceeding.
The Gers, who are listening to offers for Dessers’ Moroccan teammate Igamane, are said to have received a bid from Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille Metropole. However, Record Sport understands that Lille have been put off by Rangers’ high valuation of Igamane.
Newly-appointed Rangers manager Russell Martin has some work to do before the team’s 2025/26 campaign begins with a crucial UEFA Champions League qualifier against Greek side Panathinaikos. They have already secured the services of Lycall Cameron and Max Aarons but any further movement in the transfer window could hinge on the futures of Dessers and Igamane.
AEK, who had made an offer of £4.5m for the former Cremonese hitman, are now said to be exploring other alternative options on the transfer market, with media outlet Sportime revealing that the Nigerian’s transfer is “more likely to collapse than succeed.”
