The men’s basketball national team of Germany secured qualification to the quarter-final at this year’s Olympics competition, winning 85-71 against the hosts, France.
Germany’s electric start saw them keep France at arms length for practically the entire encounter, holding a 21-point lead at half-time and ending the third quarter 23 points ahead.
NBA stars Franz Wagner and Dennis Schröder led the with 26 points each for Die Mannschaft, while San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama’s influence was largely subdued as he garnered only 14 points on five for 11 shooting from the field.
A late fightback from the hosts in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough as Germany held on for the 14-point win to finish the group stage unbeaten and qualify for the next round with six points.
France hold on to second position with five points. Brazil take third spot while Japan finish bottom of Group B.
