Coco Gauff has booked her spot in the last eight of the Australian Open Women’s Singles following a three-set victory over Belinda Bencic on Sunday morning.
Third-seeded Gauff came from a set down to beat her Swiss opponent to join defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open quarter-finals.
The American may not have been at her best but still managed to outlast Bencic 5-7 6-2 6-1, referencing her maturity after the match.
“Maybe a couple of years ago, if I lost the first set I might lose the match, and I remember my dad said ‘we’ve got to toughen you up’,” Gauff said of the match.
Gauff will play 11th seed Paula Badosa next in the last eight in Melbourne after the Spaniard defeated Serbia’s Olga Danilovic 6-1 7-6 in another fourth round match on Sunday.
