Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has told Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club this summer as it appears the working relationship between the two is beyond redemption.
Amorim made this known during a meeting with the United squad at Carrington – the club’s training ground – according to a report by The Athletic, adding that he will remain manager next season.
This comes days after the Europa League final in which Garnacho played 20 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur, in a match the Red Devils lost 1-0 and consequently missed out on the chance of a place in next season’s Champions League.
The cameo in Bilbao left Garnacho frustrated as the Argentina international implied to reporters he would consider his future at the club after being handed a bit-part role in the final having being a starter for majority of United’s run in the competition.
Manchester United were unbeaten all the way to the semis, where they beat Athletic Bilbao of Spain to set up an all-English final against Spurs. Both teams were looking to salvage what has been a generally poor season, but it was the London side that came out on top at the final whistle.
“Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know,” Garnacho told reporters. “The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”
It now appears Amorim is willing to ease the forward’s decision on his future, as the Red Devils boss has told Garnacho he is free to leave Old Trafford this summer and find a new club.
Garnacho was on the verge of joining Chelsea during the January transfer window, as he and Marcus Rashford endured a difficult relationship with Amorim. Rashford was able to secure a loan move to Aston Villa till the end of the season, but Garnacho’s move to Stamford Bridge failed to materialise.
Despite being United’s second highest scorer this season with 11 goals, Garnacho had to settle for a place on the bench in the Europa League final. It is likely he will also not start when United welcome Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
