United States women national team recorded a comfortable 4-1 victory against Germany in the second matchday of group football games at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sophia Smith hammered home the opener in the 10th minute of the encounter, and later scored a second to secure a brace. Lynn Williams sealed the easy victory for Emma Hayes charges in the 89th minute of the game.
“It was fun. I actually enjoyed the game. My agent texted me and said ‘I enjoyed it’. It was a high level game, high level opponent. That was a mature performance,” The former Chelsea manager, Emma Hayes said after the match.
The victory sees the USWNT secure a place in the quarter-final stage at this year’s Olympics, joining world champions Spain, and needing a win or draw against the Aussies to secure top spot in Group B.
