London-born Nigerian striker and former Arsenal man, Chuba Akpom, has completed a loan move from Ajax to Lille LOSC until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old striker joins the Champions League campaigners to help ease the injury crisis at the club, though the loan deal has a buy option at the end of the season.

“The agreement includes an option to buy for the French side. Akpom’s contract with Ajax runs until June 30, 2028,” Ajax revealed in a statement on Sunday.

Akpom will be competing for a starting spot with Jonathan David, who continues to be in demand due to his consistency for Lille in front of goal. The Canadian has scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions so far this season.

Lille have been hit by injuries including midfielder Edon Zhegrova and forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, although coach Bruno Genesio had been targeting more of a winger profile.

“The worst thing is to buy for the sake of buying,” Genesio had said. “It really has to be a player who fits into the principles of the game, and who is in the spirit of this group.”
