Nigeria’s U-20 men’s national team have won the bronze medal at this year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, coming from behind to play out a 1-1 draw with host nation Egypt, before going on to win 4-1 on penalties in Cairo on Saturday.
Osama Omar put the Young Pharaohs in front after only three minutes but Aliyi Zubairu’s men struck back two minutes into the second half through Bidemi Amole.
Nigeria then survived a stoppage time siege from the Egyptians as the ball somehow failed to cross the line in a goal-mouth scramble which saw Mohamed El Sayed his the bar while Mohamed Haitham saw his rebound come off the post.
The Flying Eagles players showed great composure to convert all their penalty kicks, while goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt complemented his teammates efforts by saving two of Egypt’s penalties to seal bronze medal for Nigeria.
