Nigeria’s Flying Eagles fell to a 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in their opening WAFU B U-20 Championship match on Friday in Togo, with Fandino Abib Coulibaly scoring the only goal of the game.

After a first half in which goalkeeper Nathanial Nwosu pulled off a big save to keep the scores even, Burkina Faso’s Junior Stallions deservedly scored the goal that proved to be the match winner in the 56th minute.

The result leaves Burkina Faso only needing to avoid defeat against Cote D’Ivoire in the group’s second match to seal a spot in the semi-finals.

However, Nigeria must get a win over the Ivorians next Thursday to stand a chance of reaching the semis in Togo as teams jostle to qualify for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
