Nigeria’s U-20 national team emerged champions of the WAFU U20 B Cup held in Togo following a 2-1 win over Ghana’s Black Satellites in the final on Wednesday.
Talented striker, Kparobo Arierhi, scored two goals for the Flying Eagles in the closing 10 minutes of the first half to put Nigeria in a commanding position going into the break at the Stade de Kegue in Lome.
Arierhi’s first came in the 35th minute, latching on to a pass to slot home from close range, before adding the second in the 43rd minute after beating the offside trap and placing the ball past Ghana’s goalkeeper into the top corner.
Ghana had a great chance to get a goal back on the hour mark but a goal-bound effort was cleared off the line with Nigeria’s keeper well beaten.
The Black Satellites missed another chance to score only five minutes later when a ball across the Nigeria goal went by the outstretched leg of the Ghana player in the area.
Ghana eventually got the goal their second half dominance deserved in the 73rd minute after a ball in from the right was headed into the Nigerian goal. However, it proved to be the only goal for Ghana as Nigeria held on for the win.
