The world football governing body officially revealed the first FIFA rating of the women’s national teams for 2024, and the Super Falcons saw a decline.
The nine-time African champions fell two spots, from 32nd to 34th, in the standings.
The Falcons held their position as the top team in Africa despite the loss.
The Falcons held the top spot in the African standings, followed by South Africa, the recent African champions, who moved up one spot to take the 51st place, and Banyana Banyana.
Ghana is in fourth place, having fallen five spots to be placed fourth in the continent and 65th globally, while Morocco, third in Africa, is now 58th in the globe after moving up two spots.
Zambia is the fifth-best team in Africa, having risen five spots to capture the 65th slot worldwide in the rankings.
The remaining six teams in Africa’s top ten are Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia.
World champions Spain, continued to top the global rankings, followed by the United States, England, and France.
The Super Falcons’ status as one of the continent’s dominant teams in women’s football is unaffected by their minor drop in the FIFA rankings. The Falcons are a formidable team that will be able to carry on Nigeria’s women’s football heritage for many years to come thanks to their unwavering supremacy in Africa and their significant presence on the international scene.
