President of world football governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup Final will have a first-of-its kind half-time show.
Infantino took to social media on Wednesday to tease the information to fans and revealed that he would be working with British band Coldplay to help curate a selection of artists to perform.
He said: “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”
The half-time show is a staple of NFL’s Super Bowl and with the next World Cup Final set to be staged in the USA, FIFA is importing the spectacle into its own blue-riband event.
Infantino, who made the announcement via Instagram, did not reveal whether the half-time interval would be extended to accommodate musical performances or whether the multi-award-winning British band will be part of the show.
Coldplay have previously featured at major sporting events, including the London 2012 Olympics Games closing ceremony and before the 2011 Champions League Final at Wembley.
48 teams will feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament will feature 104 matches (including an additional knockout round) and run from June 11th to July 19th, 2026.
The 2026 World Cup Final will be played at the 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets NFL teams.
