In a big blow to Team Nigeria’s gold medal chances at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, track star Favour Ofili has revealed her name has been omitted from the 100m event in Paris by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
Ofili came into the Olympics in fine form having clocked good times to claim victory in the 100m and 200m races at the Mike Holloway Pro Classic 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour event held in Florida earlier in July.
“It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games,” Ofili declared to the shock of many on social media on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old revealed that the AFN and NOC, venting her frustration at the situation. “I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me. I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity. For what?”
Ofili added, “Please remember, in the last Olympic Games I was not able to compete because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes to be tested, which made 14 Nigeria athletes that qualified to not compete. Now THIS……”
She went on to hope she is entered for the 200m event at the Olympics, calling for those responsible to be held to account otherwise neither the AFN nor the NOC can ever be trusted.
