In a thrilling morning session at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili secured her place in the semi-finals of the women’s 200m, executing a brilliant race plan to win Heat 6 with a time of 22.24 seconds.
Ofili’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as she outpaced Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who finished second with a time of 22.28 seconds, and Gina Bass-Bittaye, who came in third at 22.84 seconds.
This impressive run not only won her heat but also marked the second-fastest time overall in the six heats, only behind Gabby Thomas of the USA, who clocked in at 22.20 seconds.
Her post-race comments reflected her focus and readiness: “Mentally I’m ready, and I’m trying to be more ready regardless of what happened.”
Ofili added, “All I know is when I step on that track, I’m going to cross the line before anybody else. I don’t care what you ran before coming in here; we’re all the same because we’re all Olympians.”
The sprinter’s stellar performance sets her up for an exceptional debut at the Olympics, showcasing her determination and talent on the international stage.
