Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola Wins Gold, Sets Olympic Record

Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia set an Olympic Record to win gold in the men’s marathon event at the Olympic Games in Paris.

The East African star crossed the line first with a time of 2:06:26 to set a new Olympic record in the event and a first men’s marathon gold for Ethiopia since Sydney 2000.

Tamirat Tola finished ahead of Belgium’s Bashir Abdi who claimed the sliver medal after crossing the line in 2:06:47 while Benson Kipruto clocked 2:07:00 to take bronze.
