Former Super Eagles striker and Enyimba veteran, Brown Ideye, believes the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) needs to improve the standards before clubs can do well again in continental competition.

Ideye returned to the Nigerian league almost two decades after leaving the country to pursue a professional career across the world, opting to return in January when he signed for the People’s Elephant until the end of the season.

According to the 36-year-old forward, the league’s quality is low and he pointed out what can be improved after the 2-0 loss at Kwara United in a rescheduled NPFL match on Tuesday.

“The system is getting worse. My time at Enyimba has been wonderful, but there are a lot of things in the league that need to improve,” Ideye said. “The system is getting worse. My time at Enyimba has been wonderful, but there are a lot of things in the league that need to improve.”

Ideye added, “The system is getting worse. My time at Enyimba has been wonderful, but there are a lot of things in the league that need to improve.”

The former Nigeria international has scored two goals in six appearances for Enyimba so far, as the club prepares for a local derby against Heartland in Owerri on Thursday.
