British number two Emma Raducanu has been bundled out of the Madrid Open in just the second round following a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 defeat to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the Spanish capital city on Friday.
In other results, Jasmine Paolini of Italy needed only 61 minutes to see off Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-2 to set up a last-32 meeting with Maria Sakkari of Greece, while Ukraine 17th seed Elina Svitolina accounted for world number 60 Sonay Kartal 6-3, 6-1.
Elsewhere, Spain’s Paula Badosa, who had been due to take on Veronika Kudermetova in the second round, has been forced to pull out from the tournament no thanks to a back injury.
