Carlo Ancelotti has started life as Brazil national team coach but was left a bit frustrated at the end as Selecao had to settle for a goalless draw with Ecuador in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
A number of first team regulars such as Barcelona’s Raphinha, Rodrygo of Real Madrid and more were unavailable for the former Real Madrid coach due to suspension or injury, leading to a subdued performance from Brazil.
The result sees Brazil drop to fourth on the CONMEBOL Qualifying table with 22 points, 12 points behind leaders, Argentina, who came away from Chile with a 1-0 win thanks to Julian Alvarez’s early goal in Santiago as the home side’s chances of getting a World Cup spot officially ended.
Elsewhere, Paraguay moved above Brazil into third place with 24 points thanks to a 2-0 win over Uruguay, who drop to fifth place with 21 points after 15 games played.
