Rena Wakama has been recognised as the Best Coach of the just concluded women’s basketball event at the Olympic Games in Paris after leading Nigeria to become the first African team – female or male – to reach the quarter-final stage.
D’Tigress announced themselves at the Olympics with an unexpected win over world number 3 team, Australia, before recovering from a loss to host nation France to defeat Canada in their last group match to reach the quarter-final.
Wakama’s team then faced overwhelming gold medal favourites, the United States, losing by the least point margin in the last eight Olympic quarter-final matches the United States have won.
At only 32-years-old, Wakama is deserving of being crowned Best Coach after guiding D’Tigress to an array of historical achievements in Paris.
