Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a dream debut with the England senior team, becoming the youngest to score and second youngest Arsenal player to play for Three Lions as the team coasted to a 2-0 win over Albania in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Friday night.
In what was Thomas Tuchel’s first match since taking the job as England Head Coach, Lewis-Skelly got on the end of Jude Bellingham’s pass to put the hosts ahead after 20 minutes and settle the early jitters for the home crowd at a sold-out Wembley Stadium.
Tuchel’s side then put the game to bed deep into the second period when Harry Kane powered home a belter, after being picked out by Declan Rice in the 77th minute. The goal was Kane’s 70th for the national team.
The result provides a positive start to Tuchel’s reign, as the 1966 world champions grabbed an important win in their bid to top Group K of the qualifying series.
Elsewhere in the UEFA section of World Cup qualifying, Latvia got a 1-0 win at Andorra in the other Group K match, while Armin Gigovic’s early goal was enough to give Bosnia a 1-0 win at Romania and Cyprus beat San Marino 2-0 in Group H.
