Djokovic Ends Losing Streak to Advance from Miami Open Round Full of Top Casualties

Serbian fourth seed Novak Djokovic snapped a three-match losing streak with a straight-set win over Australia’s Rinky Hijikata to reach the next round at the Miami Open, while other top names were not so fortunate.

Since withdrawing injured at the Australia Open semi-final, Djokovic has endured a losing run of form, crashing out in the early rounds at Indian Wells most recently.

This time, however, the 24-time Grand Slam winner made it to the next round of the competition in Florida with a 6-0, 7-6 victory to set up a meeting with world number 69 Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina.

Elsewhere, Australia’s Nick Kyrgios lost 7-6, 6-0 to Karen Khachanov to bid goodbye to the competition in Miami, while Daniil Medvedev made 32 unforced errors as he was stunned 6-2, 6-3 by Spain’s Jaume Munar.
