Novak Djokovic was quick to dispatch of old rival Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-4 and advance to the third round in the men’s tennis event at the ongoing Olympics in Paris.
Top seed at the Olympics, Djokovic wasted little time to see off Nadal who’s the King of Clay but came into Paris unseeded having spent the last few years struggling with injuries.
This encounter in Paris was the pair’s 60th meeting with Djokovic now leading their head-to-head 31-29 although Nadal takes the cake in matches between them at Roland Garros 8-3 – including at the Olympics.
The world number two will next face either Dominik Koepfer of Germany or Matteo Arnaldi of Italy in his hunt for a first Olympic gold medal – the closest he’s come to it is in the 2008 Olympics where he claimed bronze.
Nadal on his part remains in the hunt for Olympic glory this year as he is also competing in the men’s doubles event alongside world number one and Spanish compatriot, Carlos Alcaraz.
