Crowd villain in the Australian Open Women’s Singles, Danielle Collins, has crashed out from the Grand Slam after a 6-4 6-4 loss to Madison Keys in the third round.
Collins had to receive treatment for her knee during the second set of the match before succumbing to her American compatriot, much to the Melbourne crowd’s delight.
“You can’t please everybody. Earlier in my career I was more concerned about what people think and I was much more guarded about my personality,” Collins said after the defeat.
The 31-year-old added, “Maybe with age comes an attitude of being yourself and accepting who you are. I’m proud of myself, I’ve gotten to the point where I really don’t care anymore about what people who aren’t important to me think.”
Collins became the Australian Open crowd’s villain when she said fans who heckled her were contributing towards “the Danielle Collins fund” on Thursday.
At the time, she stated that the funds would be used on a trip to the Bahamas. That trip has come earlier than she planned, though.
