Dani Olmo Makes Decision on Future as Barcelona Struggle to Register Spanish Star

Barcelona and Spain star Dani Olmo is confident he will remain at the Catalan giants by the end of the January transfer window, despite the club facing trouble registering him for the second half of the 2024-25 season.

Olmo joined Barcelona in August 2024 from RB Leipzig in a €55 million deal, before missing the club’s first two La Liga matches while they worked out the modalities of his registration with La Liga.

Barcelona had to activate levers – including selling off some assets – to enable Olmo’s registration until January 2025. Now, the club must find a way to free up funds and register Olmo for the rest of the season or end up losing him for free.

However, the player himself has stated he wishes to remain at Barcelona although he admits the situation concerning his registration with the league is a stressful one, but he is remaining calm.

Speaking on his behalf in an interview with GiveMeSport, Olmo’s agent Andy Bara said the player is not negotiating with any other club at the moment as he wants to remain at Barcelona for a long time.

“I can confirm our position has not changed. We are not negotiating with any club,” Bara said in the interview. “Dani is Barça player and he wants to be a Barça player, he did big efforts in his life to be at Barcelona. It was his desire for long time.”

On the possibility of Olmo receiving big money from a free transfer, Bara said, “Big money in case of free transfer? Of course the best deals are when players are free… But the emotions also matter.”

He added, “Dani plays football as he loves the game, he did massive effort to be at Barça. I’m also happy to have Dani at Barça, one of the best players in the world at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
