Glasgow Rangers and Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has confirmed he has received interest from Greek Super League arch-rivals, Olympiacos and AEK Athens, as a possible exit from the Scottish Premier Football League club looms in the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old had a brilliant 2024-25 campaign in the SPFL with Rangers, where he ended up as the top scorer with 18 goals, adding 11 more goals in other competitions to end with a total of 29 goals and seven assists in 55 matches across all competitions.
Dessers’ form at Ibrox has now led to the former Feyenoord forward attracting interest from potential suitors, with AEK Athens having made an enquiry, while Olympiacos have also joined the race for his signature.
“With my statistics, it’s normal that there’s interest. I’ve also heard that AEK Athens and Olympiacos want to talk, but for now, I just want to enjoy my holiday,” Dessers told Voetbalkrant.
The striker was recently part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2025 Unity Cup courtesy of wins over West African rivals Ghana in the semi-finals and Caribbean powerhouse Jamaica in the final.
Capped eight times with the Nigeria national team, Dessers did not reveal any immediate future plans. Rather, he said, “I still have two years left on my contract with a fantastic club like Rangers. I don’t need to leave.”
Dessers will not be a part of the national team set to take on Russia in an international friendly encounter at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow on June 6. It is yet to be seen where the attacker will be playing his football next in the 2025-26 campaign.
