Just days after claiming a shock 1-0 win at Atletico Madrid in La Liga, Leganes have been drawn to face Real Madrid in the Spanish Copa del Rey quarter-finals on Monday.
Leganes ended Atletico’s 15-match winning run in all competitions on Saturday thanks to Matija Nastasic’s goal early in the second half at the Municipal de Butarque.
The stadium will be the venue of the last eight Copa Del Rey clash against Real Madrid in early February, with the lowly La Liga outfit hoping to record similar outcome against the another big team from the capital.
In other match-ups, Valencia will welcome Barcelona at the Mestalla, Atletico Madrid will host Getafe in another Spanish capital derby, while Real Sociedad will take on fellow Basque side Osasuna.
The draw also left open the possibility of a Clasico Cup Final encounter between eternal rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona if both teams make it that far, something that has not happened for over a decade.
