Yacine Bourhane’s goal early in the second half saw Comoros make history by finishing top of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group unbeaten, as Tunisia settled for second spot after suffering a surprise home loss on Monday night.
Following a goalless first half at the Grand Stade Al-Hoceima, Bourhane’s goal was enough to earn Comoros a 1-0 win over Madagascar for the small nation to celebrate a historic unbeaten campaign.
Meanwhile, the Carthage Eagles qualified for a 17th successive AFCON despite Abdoulie Ceesay’s first-half goal handing the North African nation a surprise 1-0 loss at home to Gambia.
Kais Yakoubi’s side dominated play and created more chances than their Gambian visitors, but were unable to convert any of those chances as Gambia held on for a consolatory victory.
