Cole Palmer On Song But Chelsea Are Held by Crystal Palace

Chelsea made it four successive games without a win in the Premier League, following a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in a London derby at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca made six changes to his starting XI and the move had its upside as Chelsea pressed early on.

Nicolas Jackson was through on goal after Cole Palmer released him with a lovely pass, only for Palace defender Chris Richards to deny the striker with a crunching tackle.

Chelsea soon found the breakthrough through a sublime move from Jadon Sancho, who dummied Richards before cleverly finding Palmer, who had time and space to set himself and slip a low shot past goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The Blues had several opportunities to get a second goal but were made to rue woeful finishing from striker Nicolas Jackson.

Palace began to assert themselves once the second half commenced and were duly rewarded when Ismaïla Sarr slid a pass between Malo Gusto and Acheampong with eight minutes to go, sending Eze through to roll the ball across for Jean Phillipe Mateta to tap home.

Chelsea tried to press for the winner but lacked conviction and settled for a share of the spoils instead. The result leaves the Blues in fourth with 36 points, a point behind Nottingham Forest who don’t play until Monday night at Wolves.
