Third seed and 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff has bowed out of the ongoing Miami Open in Florida following a straight sets defeat to unseeded Magda Linette of Poland.
The world number three put in a disappointing display as she struggled with her serve, committing 12 double-faults and putting just half of her first serves into play on her way to losing 6-4, 6-4 to Linette.
It was a first win over a top-three ranked player since 2021 for the 34th-ranked Linette who proceeds to the quarter-finals where she will face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.
The sixth-seeded Paolini came from a set down to overcome four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to set up an interesting tie in the last eight.
