2023 US Open winner Coco Gauff is through to the Madrid Open final following a comfortable straight sets victory over defending champion Iga Swiatek on Thursday.

The tournament’s fourth seed hit seven aces and won 19 of 21 points on her first serve, as she dismissed Swiatek 6-1, 6-1 in just 64 minutes to reach her third WTA 1000 final and first one on clay.

It is the first time Gauff has gotten the better of Swiatek after losing the previous five meetings between the two. She will now take on world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the Final, after the Belarusian beat Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-5 in the day’s other semi-final.

In the men’s corner, Norwegian 14th seed Casper Ruud powered into the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters after accounting for Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-5.
