Second seed, Coco Gauff, is through to the quarter-final stage at the French Open following a straight sets win over Ekaterina Alexandrova, setting up an all-American contest against Australian Open champion, Madison Keys.
Aiming for a first title at Roland Garros, 21-year-old Gauff was in ruthless form in the opening set as she won all six games. However, the second set was a much tighter affair as the 20th seeded Russian improved remarkably to take the set to a tie-break.
Gauff would eventually prevail over Alexandrova with a 6-0, 7-5 win, making the last eight at Roland Garros for the fifth successive year. She will face Keys next after the 30-year-old American seventh seed got the better of compatriot, Hailey Baptiste, with a 6-3, 7-5 win.
Elsewhere, Russian teenage sensation, Mirra Andreeva, is through to the last eight as well, thanks to a 6-3, 7-5 win over Australian 17th seed, Daria Kasatkina. Andreeva will now meet Lois Boisson after the French wildcard came through victorious against third seed Jessica Pegula in three sets.
