Jannik Sinner has powered to a third career Grand Slam title after putting up a clinical display in the Australian Open final against Alexander Zverev to win the title in straight sets on Sunday in Melbourne.
The world number one Italian needed a little over three hours and did not face a break point before claiming a 6-3 7-6 6-3 win, condemning Zverev to a third Grand Slam final loss in his career.
On the other hand, the win means Sinner has won each of his first three Grand Slam final appearances, joining the likes of Roger Federer, Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Gustavo Kuerten, Stefan Edberg, Stanislas Wawrinka and Carlos Alcaraz to achieve the feat.
Sinner also becomes only the third player on the men’s circuit to not face a break point in a Grand Slam final in the last 25 years, after Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2003 and Rafael Nadal at the US Open in 2017, and the first since Nadal in 2005-2006 to defend his first Grand Slam title.
