Nigerian football has been hit with the tragedy of former national team captain and head coach, Christian Chukwu, dying at the age of 74 on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at his home in Enugu.
Popularly known as Chairman or CCC, Chukwu passed away in the early hours of Saturday according to the a statement by the Super Eagles, though the cause of death remains unclear at this time.
Chukwu featured only for Enugu Rangers during his playing career and captained the national team to two successive bronze medals at the Nations Cup before finally hitting gold in the 1980 edition on home soil.
He won the Nigerian league title as well as the FA Cup four times each with Rangers, and was part of the squad that won the African Cup Winners Cup title in 1977.
