Chelsea Suffer Heavy Valentine’s Day Blues from Brighton

Brighton were in ruthless mood on Valentine’s Day as the Seagulls secured a second win in a week over Chelsea, this time getting a convincing 3-0 win over the Blues in the Premier League on Friday night.

Sequel to a 2-1 win to advance in the FA Cup, Brighton took the lead against Chelsea through Kaoru Mitoma, who brought down Bert Verbruggen’s goal-kick and went past his marker with the next touch before sending a low short into the bottom corner of Filip Jorgensen’s net after 27 minutes.

Jorgensen was among a four changes Enzo Maresca made to the starting line-up from the FA Cup meeting against same opponents, with Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill, and Noni Madueke coming into the starting line-up as well.

But those changes meant nothing to a Brighton side that went one better than in their last meeting against Chelsea, courtesy of a Yankuba Minteh brace in the second half to seal a 3-0 win at the AMEX Stadium.

The result leaves Chelsea on 43 points but in danger of dropping from fourth to seventh depending on how other results go over the weekend. Meanwhile, Brighton provisionally move up to eighth with 37 points.
