Joao Pedro has been added to Chelsea’s squad at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after completing his move from Premier League rival Brighton & Hove Albion, becoming a part of Enzo Maresca’s already stacked attack line.

Pedro has cost the Blues a reported £60m to become the fourth player to make the switch from the AMEX Stadium to Stamford Bridge in the last three years following the ones by midfielder Moises Caicedo, full-back Marc Cucurella and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea are preparing to face Palmeiras – where another signing, Estevao, will join the Blues after the CWC – for a place in the last four of the competition taking place in the United States. And Pedro is now in line to make his debut in that encounter in Philadelphia.

“The 23-year-old forward has penned a long-term deal with the Blues that runs through to 2033, and joins the squad immediately ahead of our FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras,” the club stated on Wednesday.

“Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history,” Joao Pedro said. “They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”

23-year-old Pedro joined Brighton from Watford in 2023, scoring 30 goals and adding 10 assists in 70 appearances for the Seagulls. He has also made three appearances for Brazil’s senior team.
