Chelsea have sealed a sixth successive Women’s Super League title, claiming the 2024/2025 season title thanks to a 1-0 win at Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Blues came into the tie needing just a point to confirm their status as league champions, as nearest challengers, Arsenal, fell to a humbling 5-2 defeat away at Aston Villa.

Chelsea and United had chances to score but could not break the deadlock by the half-time break.

Just when the game seemed to be heading for a draw, Lucy Bronze leapt to head in Sandy Baltimore’s corner just inside the far post in the 74th minute to win it for Sonia Bompastor’s side.

Chelsea sit at the top of the WSL table with 54 points, nine points ahead of Arsenal with two games remaining. Manchester United are third on 43 points.

The WSL title caps a remarkable debut season for head coach Sonia Bompastor, who replaced former manager Emma Hayes – who left Chelsea after 12 trophy-laden seasons to manage the United States women’s national team.

Bompastor has guided Chelsea to an undefeated season thus far, with 17 victories in their 20 games. She has now secured a sixth consecutive Women’s Super League title for the Blues and a record-extending eighth top-flight crown in total.
