Chelsea 2-1 West Ham United: No Happy Homecoming for Graham Potter as Blues Come from Behind To Snatch Victory

Graham Potter was not given a happy homecoming as Chelsea moved into the UEFA Champions League places with a comeback 2-1 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Monday night.

The Hammers manager returned to his old stomping ground which he left after being dismissed in April 2023, but the final result did not turn out in the way he would have wanted although it started out well for Potter.

That’s because it was the Hammers that went ahead in the 42nd minute after Jarrod Bowen pounced on a misplaced backpass from centre-back Levi Colwill before finishing past goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

Blues gaffer Enzo Maresca made some substitutions in the second period, bringing on Pedro Neto and Marc Guiu in a bid to turn things around.

The hosts duly equalized in the 64th minute after Marc Cucurella kept Neto’s deep cross in play for Enzo Fernandez to strike at goal. The Argentine’s initial shot was blocked by Vladimir Coufal, only for Neto to slot home the rebound.

Ten minutes later, Chelsea went in front after Cole Palmer’s cross took a deflection off defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and looped over Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to hand the Blues the victory.

It was Chelsea’s second win in eight games and sees them climb to fourth place with 43 points – two more than Manchester City and Newcastle United, while West Ham remain 15th on the log with 27 points.
