Riccardo Calafiori has completed a move to Premier League side Arsenal in a long-term deal that cost the Gunners around £42 million, bringing an end to a transfer saga that lasted for months.
The 22-year-old was one of manager Mikel Arteta’s top priorities in the transfer window, and the club is reported to have been impressed with Calafiori’s keenness to join only Arsenal.
Apart from last season’s Premier League runner-up, Calafiori was also eyed by Real Madrid, Juventus and another club in England’s top-flight.
Meanwhile, Sporting Director Edu had this to say about Calafiori. “We identified Riccardo as part of our strategy to sign players who fit our profile and will reinforce our squad to compete at the highest level.”
He went on to state, “Riccardo has consistently shown his quality for his club and country. He was one of the best players in Serie A last season, and gave strong performances for Italy in the Euros this summer.”
