European football governing body UEFA have appointed Felix Zwayer as the center referee to take charge of the Champions League semi-final second-leg fixture between PSG and Arsenal at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
The 43-year-old German will be the man in the middle as the Gunners aim to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit in a bid to reach the Final of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2006.
Zwayer is one of the continent’s most experienced referees with 684 games officiated, though he has courted controversy in the past. He previously served a six-month suspension in 2005, having been caught up in a €2 million match-fixing scandal involving fellow referee Robert Hoyzer.
Zwayer allegedly accepted a bribe of €300 while working as Hoyzer’s assistant referee and received a reduced suspension following his cooperation.
However, Zwayer has rebuilt his reputation to become one of Europe’s finest and he took charge of last summer’s Euro 2024 semi-final tie between England and the Netherlands in Dortmund.
