French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz is getting ready for his Wimbedon title defence in good form after edging Jiri Lehecka in three thrilling sets to claim his second Queen’s Club title in three years on Sunday in west London.
The top seed, who also won at Queen’s claiming his first Wimbledon title in 2023, extended his winning streak to 18 matches although he was pushed hard by his Czech before sealing a 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 victory at the Andy Murray Arena.
Both players held serve in the first set before Alcaraz broke Lehecka’s serve with the score at 5-5 before wrapping up a close one after 45 minutes. But the 23-year-old Czech would return the favour to take the second set and force a deciding third set.
22-year-old Alcaraz upped his game in the decider, wasting no time to break Lehecka’s serve and opening a 4-1 lead, breaking his opponent’s serve again to see out the contest and win the title.
