Monte Carlo Masters second seed Carlos Alcaraz has emerged champion for the first time at the clay court tournament in Monaco, coming from a set down to claim a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win over Lorenzo Musetti on Sunday.

Alcaraz struggled in the opening salvo and dropped his first two service games against 13th seeded Musetti, who got seven winners to claim the first set in 42 minutes of what is his first Masters 1000 final, before his Spanish opponent roared back in the second set.

21-year-old Alcaraz stormed to a 4-0 lead in the second set before wrapping up the second set in quick time and flush out an error-ridden opening and set up a title-deciding final set which saw Alcaraz race to a 3-0 lead to maintain the momentum from the second set.

Musetti then took a medical time out for treatment on his right leg and returning to the match. But the 23-year-old was unable to put up any resistance as Alcaraz finished off the match with ease to claim the title after one hour and 54 minutes.

The victory gives Alcaraz his sixth ATP Masters title and first one since winning at Indian Wells last year. The Spaniards 18th career title will see him rise to the number two spot when the latest world rankings drop on Monday.
