Defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, will have the chance of claiming back-to-back crowns at Roland Garros after recovering from losing the first set to advance at the tournament after opponent, Lorenzo Musetti, retired during the fourth set of the match in Paris.

In a clash between the duo with the most wins on clay courts this year, Musetti set the tone by taking the first set, before Alcaraz dug deep to overcome the Italian in the second set which was decided by a tie-breaker.

As Alcaraz was gaining momentum in the last four battle, Musetti was losing steam in his quest to avenge two losses to the Spaniard at the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters, as he struggled with a thigh problem which needed treatment during the one-sided third set that ended in Alcaraz’s favour.

Musetti’s left thigh injury became more serious, forcing the player to retire after going down 2-0 to seal Alcaraz’s passage to the final with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 2-0 win.

Alcaraz now awaits the winner of the second semi-final later on Friday between three-time French Open champion, Novak Djokovic, and world number one, Jannik Sinner.
