Former Cameroon international Emmanuel Kunde has died at the age of 68, FECAFOOT, the country’s football federation confirmed on Friday.

Kunde was a regular feature for the Indomitable Lions, and was a mainstay of the side that became the first African country to reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Italy in 1990.

He also played at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, where Cameroon made their debut appearance, and was in the winning team when they won the CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament in both 1984 and 1988.

“His death constitutes a huge loss for Cameroonian football,” FECAFOOT said in a statement.

Kunde took the penalty that decided the 1988 Cup of Nations Final against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Casablanca, Morocco and also scored from the spot in the dramatic 3-2 loss to England in Naples in the last-eight of the 1990 Mundial.
