German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have parted ways with head coach Marco Rose, with the team in danger of missing out on a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
The Red Bull owned franchise made the decision following the club’s 1-0 defeat away at Borussia Mönchengladbach, which was the team’s sixth successive away game without a win, and the third without scoring a goal.
Defeat meant that Leipzig dropped to fifth on the standings and could drop further to seventh if Freiburg avoids defeat against Union Berlin later on Sunday.
Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer said: “Given the development and the continued lack of results, we’re all firmly convinced that we need new impetus for the remainder of the campaign in order to achieve our aims for the season.”
The club also dismissed Rose’s backup staff of Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth and Frank Geideck as well as the head of first team soccer Frank Aehlig ahead of the team’s German Cup semifinal away at VFB Stuttgart on Wednesday.
Leipzig says it will announce a new replacement in due course. Rose took over at RB Leipzig in September 2022 and twice led the team to UEFA Champions League qualification, as well as winning the DFB Pokal (German Cup) in 2023.
